Are You a Thanksgiving Host or Guest?

by Mehner Weiser Real Estate, LLC.

Thanksgiving is next week! Can you believe it? If you're expecting houseguests or have those that tend to "just show up," you're probably rushing to ensure your home is in perfect hosting shape. One of the biggest problems with many homes is clutter! Whether you're selling or hosting, clutter needs to go. I thought I'd share a decluttering game plan to help you prepare your home for guests.

Does your kitchen often become the family drop-off spot for backpacks, mail, and other random items? It's normal! After all, it is the hub of your home. But when guests are in town, it should be the hub for hosting. Take time daily to remove any non-essential kitchen items. If you're planning on guests, stock your pantry with extra snacks, coffee and tea.

We all have bathroom items that we leave out on sinks and coutertops every day. During the holidays, find a new place for them. If you have bathroom guests won't use, move these items there. Ensure you have plenty of extra bathroom necessities that guests can easily find.

Life creates clutter in your home, especially in your living room. Find furniture and decor that doubles as storage to hide any clutter. The holidays get cozy with decorations, but don't overdo the decorations if you're having house guests. Find balance so it looks festive, but there's still space for family and friends to visit.

Your entry is full of coats, boots, and kid's clothes on an average day. When it's time for guests to come, this should be there space. Put your coats and other items that might make it look cluttered in another close or room. Keep this space available for your guests.

"Tis the season for fun and guests. Make sure your home is ready to host even if you don't have planned guests; you never know when someone will pop by for a surprise. I hope these tips help and that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. If there's anythingg that we can do to help, please let us know. Cheers!

Feeling Stressed This Fall?

by Mehner Weiser Real Estate, LLC.

Is it me, or does life get a little more stressful in the fall? Whether it's schedules, finances, or the coming holiday season, things are just less relaxed than in other seasons. However, you can help keep things calm and less stressful with a few tweaks to your home decor. Here are five decorating tips for a stress-free home.

Let Natural Light Shine

Natural light will instantly make you feel more relaxed and comfortable. Let the light shine in and take in a bit of nature to have a calm home. Use skylights and windows to keep things bright.

Add a Touch of Nature

Did you know that looking at nature can lower your blood pressure? Add a few live plants to your home to reduce added stress. Don’t like plants? Photographs, prints, or nature paintings will bring a calming touch to your busy home.

The Right Chairs Make a Difference

Finding the right furniture goes a long way for comfort, but it also helps keep stress minimal. When looking for chairs, look for something big enough so that you can change position while sitting, move around the room easily, and have a taller back. Add a side table and a plant behind for a stress-free corner.

Paint Light Colors

Ultimate comfort and relaxation start with the colors on the wall. Dusty blue, sage green or other light colors help create a stress-free environment.

Declutter

There's nothing more stressful in a home than clutter. So take time to declutter and organize your home. Place items you use the most easily accessible and store items away that you don't use awesome. Less clutter will help your flow and keep your home stress free.

Don't Skip These 6 Smart Moving Tips

by Mehner Weiser Real Estate, LLC.

No matter how much you prepare and how excited you are about your new home, moving will always be a bit stressful.

There are endless to-do’s and tiring tasks, and once you’re finished, there’s still unpacking and organizing to be done.

Even so, you can take steps to streamline your relocation and minimize problems.

Are you planning to move properties soon? Take a look at these helpful tips as you get started.

Declutter and donate. Your first step should be to declutter your house and donate any items you no longer need. You should do this a few months out — long before you start packing.

Start vetting and reserving services early on. Book your packers, movers and moving trucks early on. This will ensure you get the dates you need (as well as the best rates).

Pack an overnight bag for each member of the family. Think about what you’ll want access to on moving day and on the first night in your new place. Make sure to include snacks, water and anything else you might need.

Get creative with packing materials. You don’t necessarily need packing peanuts or costly bubble wrap to keep your items safe. Consider using hand towels, dishcloths, blankets, socks and other soft belongings instead. (They need to be packed anyway, after all.)

Label boxes systematically. Pack items by room and label each group of boxes with its own color (using stickers or a marker). This makes them easy to spot when loading, unloading and unpacking.

Plan for your pets and kids. Little ones and pets could get in the way during the big move, so make sure you arrange for them to stay somewhere safe until you’re more settled.

3 Strategies to Make 2017 Your Most Organized Year Yet

by Mehner Weiser Real Estate, LLC.

The new year represents a clean slate and the chance to begin again. It's also the ideal time to clear out unwanted items and organize your home for the year ahead. If you want a fresh start to 2017, let these decluttering approaches inspire you.

Organizational Apps
Decluttering apps are plentiful, and they provide an effective way to complete the purging process. Some, like Snupps, let you digitize your belongings and organize them into simple categories or "shelves." From there, you decide what to keep, sell or give away. You can also reach out to other users for organizational inspiration, discover items you may be interested in acquiring or show off your personal collection.

Room-by-Room Schedule
To systematically remove clutter over time, try monthly organization that's broken down by room. For example, you can tackle the kitchen in January and give the home office a deep clean in February. Make a schedule that works for you. This method may feel less overwhelming and rushed.

Single Purge
Prefer to declutter your entire home all at once? Designate a few days or a weekend to devote to the process. The secret is to stay focused on one task at a time and avoid getting sidetracked. Work your way through each room one by one until you've cleared out all areas of your home.

The new year is fast approaching and now's the time to eliminate your clutter. Whether it's an app, a 12-month schedule or one big purge, there's no shortage of methods to help you have a more organized 2017.
